Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to pop by the Breast-Feeding Friends Singapore launch event at the NTUC Centre.

What is Breast-Feeding Friends Singapore all about?

BFF is all about creating an inclusive and supportive public environment in Singapore for breastfeeding (or pumping) mothers.’

When I met up with the people behind BFFSG, I was nothing short of impressed. It is headed by 4 young ladies who have decided to undertake this topic for their FYP. But hey, it is a topic that reasonates with A LOT of breastfeeding moms, whether they exclusively pump or direct latch. And for 4 young unmarried ladies, with no breastfeeding experience, it must be quite a project for them.

But heck, let’s talk about the initiative. BFFSG has about over 40 F&B establishments to support breastfeeding at their eateries. They intend to run breastfeeding related workshops for mummies. There’s a lot of work done to try and create a more supportive environment towards breastfeeding. So yay! We all gotta start somewhere.

So here’s what happened at the launch event (I only managed to pop by the second half of it!).

The organisers have gone all out to make sure that the participants would be comfortable and there are facilities available for them. This includes a makeshift diaper changing room, a space for strollers and even a play area for toddlers! So thoughtful!

So go on, support a movement. Be part of a community. Let’s be more supportive and gracious! =)

*Disclaimer: this is not to say that breastfeeding is the ONLY way to go. Choices are always made in the best interest of the mom and baby. There is absolutely nothing wrong if one does not choose to breastfeed. Just because I breastfeed doesn’t make me an expert in the matter either. =P
