weathered

we’ve had some awesome days of weather lately. Out of nowhere came 2 really sunny days, and we’re having good weather for the weekend as well!

I think the plants are enjoying abit of rain and then sun. The strawberries are going mad, not sure if I’ll get any decent fruit. The peas and parsley sure went mad in the rain. I had to keep chopping parsley off just so it wouldn’t get out of hand. the garden peas were awesome though. i couldn’t resist eating the first picked one on the spot. haha. =P till last year, I never knew eating fresh peas were so good!

we managed to get some decent gardening done. Donald mowing the front lawn and backyard; and I was weeding and clearing out some plants. I love watching Donald mow the lawn. But it’s only cos it means I get to see my beautiful backyard. It’s just so amazing to see the grass getting cut down and you can see everything clearly again. Not clumps of weeds and grass around. Just looks neat and tidy. =P

Gonna be putting some corn and carrots in once I’ve prepped the soil. Off to the hardware store today to get some soil improver and snail pellets. Gonna be a new season! =)

winter

This winter feels long. Granted it didn’t really start till mid-June. We had such a fantastic autumn tho, with surprisingly sunny days.

It has been raining..raining and raining for most of the winter. Our electricity bill went up cos of the increased use of the heating haha. Hey, a small price to pay for comfort. Gone are the days of putting on more clothes just so you save that bit on electricity. =P

Woke up early today cos we were meant to head out for brunch with Donald’s niece and her friends. It got cancelled cos one of her friends was sick. We had plans to have pancakes for breakfast anyways (the wonders of pancake mix!). We’d done a shop yesterday and I have been having this craving for fluffy pancakes. Yar, pancakes are always fluffy in my imagination. =P Bought heaps of fruits as well, and juiced them this morning too. Donald was in charge of the pancakes.

Donald and pancakes don’t really go well. Any kind of pancakes. Indian pancakes (roti prata) and the fluffy pancakes with maple syrup kind. He burns them all the time. So..we had burnt pancakes this morning, with a cup of tea and juice. haha. Like any of my other cravings, the novelty of having fluffy (burnt) pancakes wore off really quickly.

Was in the mood for doing some gardening. The weather has put a damper on my gardening. I still toss the compost weekly. Got a bad snail & caterpillar problem, my peas and beans are being eaten. Bah. The brocolli is looking good tho! Was putting the pavers in when it started raining. -_-”

So much for gardening.

Hope the weather picks up in 3 weeks time! I need the sun for my wedding! =P

I want to marry you cos you were silly enough to want to ‘attack’ the ‘jungle’ in the backyard by hand!! hahahah
-10/06

When we first moved into the house that we are currently renting, one of the things I wanted to tackle, apart from all the cleaning, was the backyard. It was a jungle out there. The grass had grown ridiculously long, above knee height. And it just kept growing each time it rained, which didn’t help.

I told Donald that we had to get a gardener in to do the first cut, or else we’d have to go buy a lawn mower. Donald, being Donald, well, said he’d get some tools and cut it by hand. And by tools, we mean shears. To give you an idea, the garden has got to be at least 8m x 8m, if not bigger. We spent what, $20 on a pair of huge shears, and a small out to cut edges.

We spent a week after with sore legs, back and arms. *roll eyes* It was ridiculous. When we got to half the backyard, I thought that’s it, I’m not going to do this anymore. Surprisingly, even Donald threw in the towel. *laugh* We went back out to Bunnings to get a manual lawn mower cos it was cheaper than buying one that ran on fuel. 3 hours later, we brought the manual mower back cos it had broken. The grass was WAY too long for it.

Thankfully, a couple of weeks later, we found a $20 petrol lawn mower at a garage sale and we have neatly cut grass. =) I can’t believe I actually entertained the thought of cutting grass by hand. Pffffpt.
