October Babies Bash 2017

Posted on by

It was a group chat formed in July 2016, a couple of months before any of us were going to give birth in October. All of our EDDs were in October but then you have outliers like Sarah who chose to be one of the two seniors in the entire group to be born in September.

To be honest, I had been apprehensive about joining this chatgroup. I am sociable but I wasn’t sure how it would pan out in a WhatsApp chat group. One thing did lead to another, late nights chats, and we would chat about ANYTHING under the sun. And I mean, ANYTHING. ahem. Ignoring your phone for 3 hours would mean you would have missed out on over 500 messages. If the topic was hot, probably about 1000.

Post delivery, the speed at which the conversation moves is a lot slower, no thanks to the toddlers, but the chat is still very much alive; catching up on the milestones of the little ones, senior mummies advising on baby ailments and milestone developments. It never stops. Even I would ask for some advise about raising a girl. Good grief, talk about going back to square one and a steep learning curve.

Earlier this year, we decided that we needed a party to celebrate the 1 year milestone. Everyone would be busy celebrating their little ones’ birthdays in Sep/Oct/Nov, so we figured early Dec would be a good date. Yesterday, 43 mummies and 45 toddlers celebrated this 1 year milestone. It was so nice to meet up with everyone and put a face to the names in person! Okay, I was being quite rude asking ‘who are you??’ each time someone came in and registered. Sorry lah, I only see you guys once a year.

So ladies and gentlemen, here is the m&m’s themed #oct16mummiesnmonsters bash.

EDD Oct 2016 family

Sarah was comfortably sleeping on Daddy Ting so she isn’t in the photo. Bummer! But hey, we just DON’T wake a sleeping toddler okay. Good grief.

The entire planning took around 6 months. We had intended for the gathering to be a relatively gradual one, but it snowballed into a full scale event, with proper catering (none of the pizzas, KFC, zhi char stuff), and awesome sponsors and vendors.

Don’t get me started on our committee, of which I am apart of. I love it that I am working with real people who genuinely want the best for the mummies who are attending this bash; from planning the theme, to getting sponsored products that we believe would be useful for our mummies, to working on decor. Everyone was hands on. Come on, you guys are dream team okay! So much love for you guys.

Committee members and their little ones

Really thankful for the husbands who were hands on deck. From lugging boxes and boxes of stuff from the car to the 2nd floor (no lift FML), to helping out with the kids. Daddy Ting, you are da best! Look, he isn’t one to attend such events. In fact, he was supposed to just help offload the stuff and go home. But he decided that….he needs to be there for his baby girl so he hung around till the end of the event. #daddytingrawks kekekeke. Nah, bestest husband of the year award go to you liao!

Now, move on to the serious stuff liao. The sponsors. You have my utmost gratitude. Thank you for believing in us, and so generously sponsoring these items for our event. 45 goodie bags were prepared, and our mummies are impressed at the goodies that went into it. We went from having only 18 prizes for our lucky draw to prizes for everyone. *mindblown* We had only requested that you sponsor items that are suitable for our age group but some of you have gone beyond and offered us even more.

On behalf of our mummies group, THANK YOU.

45 goodie bags lined up

Prize table!

Unbagging commenced once the mummies got home! I mean that is the highlight of the event right

Emptying out the goodie bags to see what we have!

Thanks to the following sponsors for our goodie bag:

Other sponsors:

Many thanks again to our sponsors who made it happen! These sponsors were approached because we believe in their products and some of us were using them. Good grief..if you only see the number of group buys we have for the snacks! hahaha.

I will be writing reviews for some of the products we have received so you can get a better understanding of them. Along with these reviews will be some giveaways so do stay tuned!

Overall, I reckon it was a successful bash! All the mummies and kids enjoyed themselves.

Unloading the cars.

WTH. We made so many trips up and down 2 flights of stairs and I only clocked like 4.5k steps. The calories lost was WAAAY more than the steps hor. There were still another 2 cars to unload. haha.

sorting out for registration.

So thankful for one of the husbands of our mummies who stationed himself at the registration to help us out. I think really have to give the daddies a lot of credit leh!!

Self set up dessert table with goodies from various contributions!

m&ms diaper cake and a jarful of m&ms for a game!

We were thinking of a simple game that everyone could participate in so we decided to have a ‘guess the number of m&ms’ game. The counting was done by yours truly and it took me 2 hours to sort and count according to colours cos got 5 diff types of flavours! Nearly forgot the number of m&ms in the jar hahaha Heng I WhatsApp-ed the hubby the number after I counted.

the gleeful winner.

really gotta give it to the husband of this mummy as he sat next to the jar for a super long time counting! and his was the closest, 688. The total number is 710! Me? Just thankful to not have to inhale chocolate fumes for a while haha. Sugar high lohh. They joked about keeping it for kiddo till he is 18 and giving it to him.

Oribel Portaplay, fun for the kids!

So glad I decided to bring the Portaplay to the bash. I mean, it’s so convenient to pack and bring along! Raised the legs one notch and it was set to go. I love it that kids could be around the table playing with the various attachments.

Squeezed in one Thermos demo, I’ll be writing about that in the next couple of posts and you’ll see why!!

sharing porridge cooked in Thermos food jar

So how do we know that the event was a success? hahaha
