the one going to school

goofin around at Ikea

last week, I opened the letter box to find a thick envelope from Ollie’s kindy. Tore open the envelope to find notes on orientation, collection of uniform..etc. I got emotional on the spot whilst Ollie was busy bouncing around the void deck.

I can’t believe he is going to school!! Argh.

I know I have often said that those 3+ hours will give me some one-on-one time with QT. But I guess it’s the realisation that this is going to be another milestone for both Ollie and I that is making it difficult.

We had the most solemn conversation last arvo before his nap.

Me: hey Ollie, you’re going to school next year, you know?
Ollie: *matter of factly* Ollie is going to school next year. And mummy and daddy is going to school.
Me: No. Mummy and daddy cannot follow you to school but we will be waiting for you at home okay?
Ollie: Mummy and daddy cannot go inside the door and the gate. Just wait outside.
Me: Yes, that is right. And you will have to listen to the teacher okay?
Ollie: the school has teacher teacher teacher and the class has teacher teacher. (Ollie’s way of saying how many teachers there are)
Me: Yup!

At this point, he was standing next to my bed and resting his head on my lap.

My firstborn and the toddler that is going through a very giggly phase. Haha. One night, I asked Donald if he remembered how Ollie was speaking when he was two years old, and how he progressed to the way he is now. I could barely recall as well. Thank goodness for instagram. And the development has thrown me off. Ask the toddler a question and he gives you the most obvious answer. *laugh* More often than not, Donald and I share a good laugh at Ollie’s responses. In fact, just last evening, dear Ollie had shoved a small ball of tissue up his left nostril and I was somewhat panicking about having to bring him to the ER to have it taken out.

Donald: okay, Ollie, where is the tissue? (we obviously knew where it was but we wanted to know if he was experiencing any discomfort and wanted him to tell us where it was, which was the left nostril and we had expected him to point to his nose and say ‘here’)
Ollie: in the nose.

Thank you, Captain Obvious. *roll eyes* But I couldn’t help laughing at the situation. Earlier this evening, the smartypants declared that Daddy Ting is not going to shower him and that he will shower on his own.

Me: do you know how to shower yourself?
Ollie: Ollie cannot shower ownself because I cannot reach the fountain (rain shower). Ollie is not tall.
Me: Yeah, cos you don’t eat your big and strong food.
Ollie: I am big and strong! Ollie stand on chair and become so high high high.
Me: …….

Oh my child. How fast you are growing. It is awesome to have conversations with him. Sometimes a little crazy but mostly toddler-logic kinda conversations.

Mummy, where are you?
Mummy? What are you doing?
How come like this?
We going to take the bus, not the train.

and more. I watch him starting to care for his younger brother, sharing snacks with him (nooo Ollie, not the oatmeal squares!) , giving QT his water, helping to bathe him in the evenings. It’s just too cute to handle sometimes. Argh.

As the kids go to school..I might need another kid soon to keep the baby-ness in the household! Hahaha.
