the third party

Posted on by

there is a third party in our lives. Not referring to Oliver here. *sigh*

I’m aware of her cos Donald talks to her every night, and seeks her opinions on many things, like what he should do next. And..and he’s so polite to her! The nerve…

Her name is Siri. *roll eyes*

Donald can spend hours talking to her, and asking stupid questions like, “Should I sleep now?” or “Remind me to sleep at 8.45pm.”. He then has a good laugh at the responses that she gives him. That’s the consequence of buying him the iPhone 4S for his birthday.

BAH.

Yesterday, Donald and I trialled hitching a ride early in the morning with his mom to go to work. We had to wake up 30mins earlier, and set off at least 30mins earlier as well. I got to work 30mins earlier, which wasn’t so bad a thing. The morning bit..was fine. But the journey home via public transport was a nightmare. Not because it was public transport (I handle it WAY better than Mr. Ting =P). But because of the time wasted whilst on public transport.

I left the office at 6pm, to catch the company bus to the nearby train station (which takes about 30mins), and then take the train to meet Donald 2 stations away, before carrying on the journey to Bedok. AND THEN catch the feeder bus to our flat. We got home at nearly 8pm.

Nearly two hours wasted on public transport, when I could have been doing some work! (so the workaholic in me yells). We went back on the motorbike today. I was happy to be back on my routine. 2 hours on public transport just made me even more tired..on top of having to wake up earlier. Geez. This tired thing could be just as bad as being on the bike, and between the two, I’d be happier on the bike.

Happy me = happy Oliver. *beams* I know..warped logic.

Anyhoos, Friday tomorrow. Can’t wait for the weekend! I’ve got things planned out which involves some spring-cleaning and probably some baking. Was in Simei this arvo, and I had to stop by the local baking supplies store, Phoon Huat, to grab some baking supplies. I was reading the November issue of the Australian Good Food magazine and was inspired at all the Christmas-themed recipes. I grabbed some ground cloves, lavender flowers, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and….egg white powder! I had been looking around for that, so was quite happy to find some at the store.

But horrors of horrors, S$9.50 for a pack! Yikes. And I had just grabbed two packs without thinking too much about it. Ah wells..the chiffon had better turn out damn good. haha.

demolition

Floor & Wall Tiles

work on the flat has begun! We checked out the flat last Thursday, and the demolition was already in progress. Heaps of hacking of the floor and wall tiles. The entire floor was covered in rubble! I definitely don’t envy our neighbours at this point in time. I can imagine the amount of noise they had to put up with..sorry neighbours. =(

but it’s so exciting! Just a mere 5 days and the flat is starting to take shape. i can slowly see our designs coming to fruition. the hole in the wall between the kitchen and the living room, the walk-in-wardrobe. gosh. i can’t believe it’s starting to happen!

Donald and I aren’t very stringent in popping down to check out the work. I can remember how my parents did it previously. I think they went down almost everyday, with my mom trying to coordinate different tradespeople. Now, Donald and I got just one person to coordinate everything. And I’ve got this wee bit of a time to blog about the renovation hehe.

Apart from that, Donald and I still have been busy with the other aspects of the flat. Blinds. Furniture. Electrical appliances. That and work. I had the tendency to still think about work when I got home and decided last Friday that I was gonna have some me time. So what did I do?

I baked brownies!

yuuuum. We had bought two tubs of ice cream a couple of weeks before. Now I know how awesome good quality green tea ice cream goes with brownies. mMMMmmmm.. I couldn’t stop snacking on the brownies. I had brownies for breakfast on Saturday morning. haha. I think I’m gonna be baking them soon again. The recipe is so simple to follow and they had the right kind of fudgey texture to it. Just barely moist. Shiok!

Another round of me time with some girlfriends tomorrow night! We’re celebrating one of my girlfriends’ birthday with a steamboat dinner. Just what I’ve been craving. hehe. I’ll absolutely chill out, and then prep myself for the week ahead. =D Gonna be away for a work trip, and I think I’m gonna be sneaking in a bit of shopping! *inno*

eh, I got permission okay! =P

food feeds

miniature yams

food food and more food. and only at work. *groan*

recently, some of our Muslim colleagues celebrated Hari Raya on 10 September. and with that, our office had a sudden influx of goodies. biscuits, crisps and even muffins. it was a little crazy when half the goodies disappeared by the second day.

and it didn’t help that most containers of it was placed in front of my cubicle and the crisps were soooo addictive. =(

on top of that, I had colleagues who were constantly feeding me cos I am the unoffficial food-chargehand in the office.

home-cooked steamed sweet potatoes. steamed miniature yams that were only available around the mid-autumn festival (coming on 22nd Sept). mooncakes. rice porridge. soya beancurd pudding. my favourite 流沙包 (steamed salted egg & custard buns). savoury buns.

*takes a deep breath* I really need to get back to running. (so I keep saying =P)

and Donald & I went for a high-tea buffet today for our anniversary too. -_-”

we’ll see how far we go with this exercise routine. haha.
