lifestyle

Donald and I have a decent lifestyle, but terrible eating habits.

Esp. me when at home and at work. My department is going through a keropok craze as mentioned a couple of posts before. Which means, it’s soooo hard to resist snacking when you are feeling drowsy!!

And crazy me just suggested a chocolate craze. haha. Right.

So. Donald and I have been going on about exercising to have a healthier lifestyle. But we are such procrastinators. To think I used to wake up at 6am without a problem. Now..I wake up at 7am. -_-”

A colleague at work, Rico, and I have been trying to encourage each other to eat more vegetables and fruits for lunch, and even exercise. haha. The vegetables I’m okay, but I keep forgetting to bring a fruit along to work.

And obviously my weekly work-food schedule has been ignored, so everything’s haywire.

*sigh*

SO. I’m gonna start cooking a vegetable dish, and some rice at home, and bring it to work. I’ve just decided that even though I’m eating veggies from the canteen, the amount of oil used to fry it just cancels all the health benefits out. Meh.

Oh..and I’m gonna attempt cutting ALOT of sugar out of my diet. 1/2 tsp of sugar in tea, and no more soft drinks. The chocolate bit…may have to come later. haha.

Hopefully this works. and I’m gonna have to start sleeping earlier. *yawn*

bah, been so utterly busy (and a little lazy) that I haven’t been writing much. And..to think we renewed the domain name and domain mapping for another year! haha. =p Donald’s fairly insistent on it. But he should write too lah…meh.

Anyhoos, today’s marks our 5th year 3rd month of dating anniversary. which is also our 9th month together as being married (according to the SG wedding). =D awww.

egg container

had bought a individual egg container on our honeymoon last year on a sly. the purpose was to write daily messages into the egg for each other to read. as you can see from my “I want to..” series (which I should really complete!!), obviously it didn’t quite happen. but I’d write on special occasions, like today. haha.

the last time anything was written inside was when Donald left Perth to go back and start work, and I was bawling my eyes out writing a note. and then I chucked it into his luggage so that it would be a surprise for him. haha. like siva sez, “girls are good at these stuff.” I should be charging him for all the stuff that I’ve thought up for him man!! from the mother’s day pressie, to an anniversary pressie for his wife, which was quite a joke, and we couldn’t stop giggling when we were prepping it. *solemn* we were being very mischievous at work. hahahah.

Donald’s just grabbed it and gone into hiding to read the notes. *roll eyes*

So, work’s been insane. I meant to cook this week for dinner, but I was so busy that I was coming home late every night, well, last evening being the exception. we still went out to eat tho..haha. clocking up a fair bit of OT, so it’s all good! Something extra at the end of the month. And it’s also been good that I’ve been busy. It just means that I don’t get to snack as often as I want. My table’s horrendously filled with junk food and files. And when Azi is stressed, she’ll call out for the contained that’s filled with chips, which I’ll obligingly handover. I joked that we should have weighed ourselves in June, and then weigh ourselves again in Dec, just to see how much weight we’d have put on. Really bad for us to be junk food neighbours. hahah.

Work’s been insane, but awesome. And hilarious. I was speaking with a manager, and giving him some information about an event he had to attend. He mistook it and thought I was sending him for a course, and told me that he had already completed university. It was the way he said it, plus I was already gonna laugh about a pun that I had intended to say, on top of him mistaking my intention. I ended up laughing, and I couldn’t stop. I had to tell him that I’d call him back.

And I laughed and laughed, with my boss and Azi looking weirdly at me. Well, they got why I was laughing so hard when I told them what happened. Thank goodness he wasn’t at his table when I had to call back, cos I wasn’t ready. I was still smiling when the phone was ringing. So pai seh!!

I’m glad work’s mostly filled with laughter. Really makes the day get by easier. *grin*

So, after a crazy weekend the week before last, where we bought a bed, a System 4 airconditioning unit, and a sofa for our new place, the following week was quiet. Donald joined me and the ladies of the Chew family (maternal side) for an afternoon of mahjong and dinner out, cos my uncle and aunt weren’t home, and Grandma was mostly left alone. Sunday was spent going around Woodlands checking out dining tables. And I found my perfect dining table within the right price range!!

And of course, Donald found his perfect dining table that is out of the price range. -_-” why my husband like that one huh??

It’s tiring to keep going around and checking out designs and going to more retail shops. but the varieties out there really amazes me. Especially the fugly ones. Madness lah! Thing about me is that once I see one that I really like..we don’t really have to see any others. haha. Call me closed minded, but I already have an image of what the furniture should look like. =P

After that, we went on a date at Holland Village for dinner and dessert. Donald had said that on the way to dessert, he’ll bring me to my favourite place. In my mind I was like, ‘Coffee Club for ice earled vanilla??’ hahaha. But nooo..it was actually better. A brightly lit shop that sold kitchen ware. *swoooon* A man after my heart =P I spent about 30 mins in there, and saw that they had the Australia Good Food magazine there as well. So yay! =P

Well, new weekend, and we’re off to check out more suppliers for our home. It’s really coming together!! Damn excited.

traffic, school & keropok

coloured sago keropok

finally, to add some colour into the blog. i know it’s been a little plain, with just text. =P the object in the photo is a container of sago keropok (“crisps”). there has been a keropok frenzy in the office, no thanks to me.

well, no thanks to my dad actually. haha. on one of the weekend visits to my parents’ place, I discovered a small container of keropok on my dad’s desk. it was the emping belinjau (belinjau crisps( that was coated with sweet chilli. it was sooo addictive, and it was a snack that I hadn’t had for ages. That sorta sparked a mini frenzy to look for those crisps. I know they were available, but it blended it with all the rest of the local snacks, it was a little hard to find. and when I did..it went downhill from there. haha.

I offered it to my neighbour, Azi, and to another Malay colleague, Erma, and we were snacking on it the entire day! When the container went empty, it was almost immediately topped up with another packet. Then another colleague brought it a different kind of keropok, and Azi bought some from Malacca when she went home for a visit. Then Erma went to Malaysia and she brought more variety of keropok back! The one in the photo is the latest addition. haha. Azi had bought me some raw coloured rice keropok, and they are yet to be fried, so it should be interesting to see if how they would puff up! My dad still hasn’t fried them y et =P

The whole thing about frying, sure brings alot of memories of the days when there were about 12 people living together in a flat, and keropok frying was just another weekend activity. All the hustle and bustle. I’d remember mama (my paternal grandma) dry-frying groundnuts, and then getting us to peel the charred skin off the groundnuts. These groundnuts would then go into a jar of ikan bilis (anchovies) and sugar is added into the jar as well. We would then shake the jar to make sure the sugar is evenly spread out. haha.

But yeah, my table is filled with snacks. People pop by my table for some snacks, mostly keropok, cookies and banana chips. haha. Azi is blaming me for her weight gain. I am afterall the unofficial F&B chargehand in my department. hehe. Mondays are delivery days, which means I usually look around for food places that have a delivery service and have them delivered to the office.

Mondays – Delivery Day
Tuesdays – Fruits Day
Wednesdays – Vegetable Day
Thursdays – Sandwich Day
Fridays – Anything Day

I’m pretty good with vegetable day..and delivery day and anything day. haha. The fruits and sammich days..aren’t really working out. Maybe when I move into our new place. =D

Oh yes, that theory about bad traffic when school reopens. I had a thought on the way to work. Actually I’d already thought about it before..just that I forgot. =P Now, can someone please enlighten me about why traffic is bad when school reopens?

Is it because parents are leaving the house earlier, cos they are dropping their kids off at school, and adding to the morning work traffic? (this refers to parents dropping kids off and going to work / going home)

Or is it a fallacy thing, that everyone thinks traffic is going to be when school reopens so everyone leaves the house earlier to beat the morning traffic and ends up adding to it when there’s no bad traffic to begin with?

Gaah.

And that whole thing about the traffic, got me thinking about schools. There are the ‘good’ schools and the ‘not-so-good’ schools. What determines a good school, and a bad school? Do students perform dependent on how the teachers teach? Do the students perform dependent on the type of students who study there? How do teachers feel when they end up being assigned to a ‘not-so-good’ school? When does a not-so-good school become a good school?

I admit, I am a snob when it comes to schooling. Not for myself, but maybe my children in the future. Parents would want the best for their kids. So I think, I want my kids to study at the primary school that I studied in (I think it is an awesome school =P). Donald reckons we should send our kids to the school nearest to home, so they don’t have to wake up too early travelling to school (*points to Donald* spoilt brat =P). I’m a little apprehensive about the schools near our new place. I’m not saying that they are lousy schools, I haven’t studied there. But what if all parents thought that way, and all the not-so-good school needed was a smart kid to turn the place around? Or a really awesome teacher to turn the school into a good school?

Or is this all in our minds, schools are just schools. they are educational institutions and how your child turns out is not just dependent on the school, but how anyone allows your child to express himself/herself and learn from there?

Maybe I think too much about all this school stuff. It’s a good 5-8 years away. haha.

oh wells. =)
